Real Financial Advisors

What is a Real Financial Professional?

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re what I call a Real Financial Professional.

If this term—Real Financial Professional—is new to you, you’re not alone. It hasn’t been around that long. In fact, it’s a term I had to invent because, in the financial services industry, we can’t even seem to agree on what to call ourselves. Some people don’t consider themselves planners, some people don’t like being called advisors. And none of us like being called salespeople.

Think about this—if we can’t even agree on what to call ourselves, how are we supposed to agree on how to define ourselves?

So let me start, first and foremost, by clearing something up: a financial professional is anyone who gives financial advice for a living. Planners, advisors, etc. How’s that for a definition?

But what about the “Real” part?

That requires a bit more explanation. In fact, getting clear about what it means to be a Real Financial Professional is precisely what The Society of Advice is all about.

In a nutshell, when I talk about Real Financial Professionals, I’m talking about the kind of person I would send my closest friends to…

In other words, someone I trust.
